“ DC has many cozy Italian restaurants and this one is special because so much of their menu is homemade. I've had the Strozzaprerti alla Norma and the bolognese, both of which I enjoyed, but I recommend the Bolognese. I had that one delivered and it was still an incredible meal! ”
“ This is one our favorite spots of Italian food especially fresh made pasta. It's in Adams Morgan so parking can be a pain. We typically use Uber/Lyft to avoid all that hassle plus it's a nice area to walk around a bit after dinner to work off some of those calories and make room for a nice beer at one of the local pubs lol. Service has been consistently good whether it's just 2 of us or a party of 10. We love it here and only wish they were closer to us in Alexandria. ”
“ This is a go-to casual Italian date night spot for us in Adams Morgan. It's low frills and everything seems really fresh, and there's a large window looking into the kitchen where you'll see staff tossing pasta and sautéing. Pasta is always cooked perfectly. ”
“ The food was excellent! Highly recommend for Italian food. Service was okay. The servers were quite slow and didn't refill water but won't take off stars from the review cause the food was excellent. The restaurant is cute and intimate. It seemed like a hidden gem with cute seating upstairs and main floor. I would definitely come back for the pasta. Would skip out on the lava cake though ”
“ Very good pasta. Good portions, flavorful and just salty enough, truly al dente. And we love a place that does specials! And they were so kind as to accommodate my request for a red sauce instead of a white sauce. There's an upper dining area where you can get a good view of the open concept kitchen. Also I am obsessed with the tiling on the tables and throughout the restaurant. Such a cute place and honestly I might've missed this if my brother didn't point it out! We came here on a Monday night and it was not too busy but just busy enough to feel cozy and vibrant. There was a large party celebrating a birthday and someone dining alone and a few other small tables. ”
“ I've had this restaurant on my must try list for a long time and I finally had the chance to try it! I went for dinner and the restaurant is so cute and small, very intimate but it makes you feel like you're at a restaurant in Europe. The service was great, they accidentally gave us the wrong entree but immediately replaced it and I think even took the dish off of our check. We had the arancini and meatballs to start - both out of this world! And then shared the short rib ravioli and orecchiette pollo vodka. Finished with the molten lava cake. All of the food was absolutely phenomenal, I was not overly full but just the perfect amount. So so yummy highly recommend! ”
“ Today we celebrated Jordan's birthday yesterday at Al Volo !!! This place serves home made customizable pastas and a variety of appetizers. We enjoyed the Polpette which was a juicy meatball along with the Ceasar Salad. As for our mains we all got pastas but our favorite was the Pappardelle with creamy pesto & shrimp. Restaurant: Osteria Al Volo Food Ordered Fried Aranchini- won't get again, felt like the rice was lacking flavor Fried Artichoke Polpette Caesar Salad Pappardelle with Creamy Basil Pesto w/ Goat Cheese (GET THIS) Bucatini Short Rib Atmosphere: 6.5/10 Food: 7.95/10 - noodles were a little hard for some of our liking Service: 8.7/10 - Excellent ”
“ If I could give this place 4.7 stars, I would. It was ~almost~ perfect. I went with a friend. The plan was split a bottle of wine, eat pasta, have dessert. The service was very nice and friendly and helpful. Refreshing compared to my recent DC dining experiences that lacked personality in service. We found the service very European, we weren't rushed out or pressured with the check as soon as we were done eating. Very classy. The interior is very cozy, I can imagine this being a lovely date spot in the Winter. We had the carbonara pasta, squid ink pasta with funghi, and then tiramisu and cannolis for dessert. Everything was delicious and decadent in flavor. I thought the cannolis were some of the best I've had. The prices were very fair in my opinion. Very reasonable, and a good value spot. My qualms: the wine was not the best selection, and for a $44 bottle of champagne, you'd hope you're getting something a little better. I know the restaurant needs to make profit, but there are plenty of great applications where you can find good affordable wine. The wine was okay, but I've had better Chardonnay that wasn't expensive. I don't mind the $44, but I'd prefer a better wine. My next issue; my pasta noodles were a little too stiff/firm. My friend's plate served far better noodles. Still delicious though, so I'm not too bothered. I would 100% return again, and plan to. I think this is my favorite Italian Restaurant in DC! Worth a visit. ”
“ Really cute and cozy pasta place! Service was great-- everyone was super nice. Ambiance was really nice too-- perfect for a cute date or a good meal with family. I got the fettuccine amatriciana and it was pretty good, but not amazing. I really liked the sauce and the texture of the pasta, but I thought that the sauce could be a bit spicier from my personal taste. Overall, will be coming back to try the other dishes! ”
